The woman made, as he said, two bandages, and hung one on her shoulders to cover her chest and one to cover her waist. She made the same bandage for the man, and only then did they come down from the tree. At first, humans were no different from animals and also lived in caves, but then wild animals began to devour them, and they asked Shih-shen for help. He gathered people and animals together and told them to go to the spring one by one and drink from it. After that, birds began to speak like birds, animals spoke like animals, and people spoke like human beings. Shih-shen told wild animals that from now on they are not allowed to eat anyone and can only eat meat every seven days. When the animals heard this, they complained that they would starve to death, and Shih-shen replied that if they were hungry, they could suck in air and emit gases. He also told them not to run anywhere and told them to live far away in the mountains and forests. Since then, wolves, lions, tigers and leopards have been living in the mountains, and when they don't have anything to eat, they climb to mountain tops and suck in the air. Because wild animals harmed people, they harbored enmity, and when they saw them, they chased them. They did not have kneecaps, so they ran very fast, and the animals could not escape from them. Then the animals complained to Shih Shen, who took two clay bowls and glued them tightly to the people's knees, so that they turned into kneecaps, so people could no longer catch up with the animals.
