North Africa. The Berbers of Morocco (Reef) [dwarfs as tall as two years old, old from birth, naked, humpback live underground; every day they dig access to earth to destroy people and live on land instead them; every night they say that there is not much left, we need to rest; during the night, the move is covered with earth; this is because they don't say In sh'a Allah; if they guess to say, they'll finish the work, they'll destroy people]: Coon 1931:155-156: Ancient Egypt [Hufhor's autobiography (circa 23rd century BC) sets forth the circumstances of four expeditions to the country of Iam. The main achievement of the fourth expedition was the delivery of the pygmy to the court "for the dances of God, for entertainment, for the entertainment of the king of Upper and Lower Egypt Neferkar". There are textual correspondences between Pepi II's letter to Hufhor and the saying 517 "Pyramid Texts". Since mythological ideas about the structure of the world and its inhabitants could influence the perception and interpretation of real events, stable descriptions of pygmies as "divine dancers" and the indication of their origin from the "land of the inhabitants of the horizon" can be considered as a reflection of mythological ideas. The few monuments of the late 3rd and early 2nd millennia BC conveyed to us the ancient Egyptian perception of "border zones", where expeditions were sent from time to time to extract special valuables. Hufhor's delivery of a pygmy from the "land of the inhabitants of the horizon" can be considered the earliest fixation of the "underground dwarfs" motif and an example of how mythological ideas can be preserved in mostly historical source]: Aleksandrova 2019.
