The magic assistant satisfies the poor man's simple desire. The poor man or his wife is asking more and more. In the end, the assistant punishes the petitioner (usually by selecting everything that has been given). {Many references to texts outside Europe in Uther 2004 are not related to the ATU 555 story and do not include the K151 motif.
